Storytelling is Your Most Powerful Professional Development Tool

We don’t blaze trails by ourselves. We need our posse, we need advocates, we need cheerleaders and co-conspirators. And the only way to influence people to enthusiastically join you on the journey is for them to know what matters to you - your values, your character, and your vision.

You can tell people you’re an expert, a team player, a caring leader, or a passionate advocate, but that doesn’t make these things true or compelling. But sharing the stories that demonstrate these things will be the most persuasive, inspiring, and memorable connection you can make with any audience.

In this session, you’ll experience storytelling as a powerful tool for developing and managing your personal brand, for leading teams, and as a professional woman building a stand-out career and life.

You'll be engaged in exercises to begin collecting your most meaningful personal stories, and you’ll practice sharing them after learning simple and approachable storytelling components. Together, we’ll uncover the biggest storytelling challenges and begin to gain confidence in knowing exactly which stories to share when opportunities arise.

Objectives

  • Discover the power of sharing the right story for developing and managing your personal brand.

  • Learn key components of story sharing: Body language/expression, setting intention, story listening

  • Collect and practice at least 2 meaningful stories during the session

Speed Networking & VIP Reception

Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2026 | 5-7:30 p.m.| Farminton Civic Center

Included with your Women's Summit Ticket

Standalone tickets available for $50

Some of the most valuable opportunities at the Women's Summit happen between sessions, and this event is where those connections begin.

Our guided speed networking experience is designed to help you meet a wide variety of professionals in a fun, structured setting. Through a series of brief conversations, you'll have the chance to introduce yourself, exchange ideas, and connect with professionals from across the Four Corners region representing businesses, nonprofits, government agencies, and community organizations.

After networking, continue the conversation at our VIP Reception, featuring live music, hors d'oeuvres from Clancy's, and a relaxed atmosphere where you can deepen the connections you've just made.

Be sure to bring plenty of business cards or other marketing materials to share.

Whether you're looking to grow your business, build professional relationships, discover new opportunities, or simply expand your network, this is an event you won't want to miss.

Morning Keynote with Sarah Elkins

Thursday, Nov. 5, 2026

Using Story to Nurture and Inspire Your Community

This keynote reconnects you with the power of your own story—the story that builds strong relationships and trust, naturally and authentically, so you gain the champions and advocates you need to succeed.

You lead from wherever you stand, and when you’re clear about who you are as a leader, your entire community benefits. You’ll leave this session feeling more grounded in your voice, more intentional in your message, and more capable of serving your community by allowing and encouraging others to contribute, whether you're rallying a team, earning buy-in for a project, or in an interview, or stepping into bigger leadership moments.

About Sarah

Sarah is your guide to uncovering the right personal stories for the right audiences so executives, leaders, advocates, public speakers, and job seekers can clearly and effectively demonstrate their character, values, and vision. She is a storyteller, keynote speaker, Gallup certified workplace communication coach, author, and professional musician. Her podcast and book, Your Stories Don’t Define You, How You Tell Them Will, help listeners and readers understand that the stories they choose to tell, and how they choose to tell them, influence their internal messages and how they are experienced by others. Her workshops and coaching packages are known to address and reduce miscommunication – the most common cause of tension and stress in the workplace. Using results from the StrengthsFinder assessment, she guides conversations to ensure work relationships are based on knowing & valuing each other’s strengths, and connecting with each other on the most basic level through enhanced self-reflection, story sharing, and effective listening.

Time Maximizers for Success: Start Using Time to Slay Your Goals

Achieving your goals comes down to how intentionally you invest your time in the activities that actually move the needle. If you find yourself constantly saying "there's never enough time" or believing you’re just "not good at time management," you've likely developed a toxic relationship with time, probably unknowingly. Amber reveals how changing these limiting beliefs and viewing time as a strategic investment can swiftly transform your personal productivity and accelerate goal achievement.
